Post symposium tour

 
   

Four exciting tours are on offer. Bookings for these tours will be directly with the local Travel Agency at registration.

Tour 1: Arusha Town (Friday)
This excursion is nearby and a possibility for people to go to Arusha Market and see local produce for sale. Furthermore they can have a look in town, buy some souvenirs, visit the Maasai Cultural Museum and go to the snake park where you can see a great variety of African snakes. (Minimum number of people: four)

Departure: 9 a.m. from Ngurdoto Lodge. Return: 6 p.m.
Price: 30 US $ per person

Tour 2: Ngorongoro Crater (Friday)
One day tour to National Parks – includes lunch (minimum 4 people):
The world’s 8th wonder, the area covers 8,300sqkms varying in altitude between 1,020m at the crater floor to 3,587m. The park is bordered on the west by Serengeti National Park. It is 170kms from Arusha and boasts of the finest blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeological sites. The centrepiece of Ngorongoro is in fact the crater, 19.2km in diameter, 610m deep and 304 sq. km in area. Aside from herds of zebra, gazelle and wildebeest, the crater is home to the "big five" of rhinoceros, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Furthermore you will see man (the Maasai) live and blend in harmony with wildlife.

Departure: 6 a.m. from Ngurdoto Lodge. NB: Early breakfast starting at 5.30 a.m. will be arranged. Return: 7 p.m. Total driving time into the crater: 4 h, time spent in crater about 4-5 h
Price: 140 - 190 US $ per person (90 - 140 $ for East African Nationals - Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.).

Tour 3: Usambara Mountains (2 day excursion Friday – Saturday)
The Usambara Mountains are around 4 hours drive from Arusha; a great landscape with a mild climate that allows growing tropical and temperate fruits and vegetables at the same time. Program: Different visits are possible (but only 2 can be realized): (a) Meet farmers who are producing high quality (exotic) vegetables which are directly delivered to high-end hotels in Dar es Salaam. (b) Visit a wattle tree plantation (production of shoe polish). (c) Visit a small abbey where Macadamia oil (besides many other agricultural products) is produced. Overnight will be at Mullers’ Mt. Lodge, located at a height of 1700m in Lushoto. The lodge is a refurbished 1930s house, surrounded by pleasant gardens and lawns amongst shady trees.

Departure: 7 a.m (Friday) from Ngurdoto Lodge. NB: Early breakfast starting at 05h30 will be arranged. Return: 6 p.m (Saturday).
Price: 195 US $ per person (full board / accommodation is included).
Please note that the number of participants is limited to 15 persons but requires a minimum of 7 people.

Tour 4: Visit local producers around Mount Meru (Friday)
The first visit will lead us to a farmer who is producing Jatropha curcas and Ricinus communis for biofuel. This is his new project, diversifying from the production and export of roses. We will then visit a seed company, which has been working in close collaboration with AVRDC in the production of locally adapted varieties of various vegetable. Before returning to the hotel we will visit local small-holder farmers who produce a variety of different vegetables, fruits and spices in local “garden farming systems”.
(Minimum number of people: four).

Departure: 9 a.m. from Ngurdoto Lodge. Return: 4 p.m.
