Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world, reaching up to 50 kg in weight and 60-90 cm in length. A mature tree can yield up to 700 fruits per year, each weighing 0.5-50 kg.
Jackfruit is adapted to humid tropical and subtropical climates; it thrives at altitudes below 1000m.

Artocarpus heterophyllus (Jackfruit)
Jackfruit Curry
Provides energy, protein, iron and calcium and is excellent for lactating mothers. The leaves help in diabetes, insomnia and snakebite.
Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 1/2 pint coconut milk
- 1/2 lb jakfruit kernels
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 green chilli, chopped
- 1" piece cinnamon
- 1/2 t saffron
- 1/4 t fenugreek
- 1/2 t pepper
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/2 t curry powder
Method:
- Cut the kernels into strips and wash.
- Boil them with the rest of the ingredients
- Simmer till tender
- Add the coconut milk and boil for five minutes
